Deborah Todd, Owner/Designer
Deborah has been a champion of sustainable design for four decades, starting with the first home she designed and built in 1984 on Bainbridge Island, Washington. Her early works focused on minimal environmental impact, passive solar design, and energy efficiency. Over time, she earned LEED certification and Sustainable Building credentials.
She has completed over 400 new homes and remodels, showcasing her dedication to preserving the Pacific Northwest's environment. Her projects have received accolades like 4 and 5-star Built-Green certifications, LEED Platinum distinction, and registration as Living Buildings. Deborah also collaborated on Washington State's first hemp/lime home, demonstrating her innovative vision and continues to champion the use of this sustainable building material.
Deborah's core philosophy centers on context-driven solutions, achieved through close collaboration with homeowners and a focus on site-specific requirements. Her goal is to create regenerative homes for both inhabitants and the environment.
Outside of her work, Deborah enjoys a lifestyle of adventuring in the Pacific Northwest and Hawaii with her family and friends, embracing activities such as cycling, hiking, and ocean swimming.
Katie Greenmun
Born and raised in the Seattle area, Katie graduated from the UW with a BA in architecture in 2000. She practiced residential design with Roger Katz and Associates Architects on Bainbridge Island for almost 8 years before taking a few years off to raise 3 amazingly individual boys. In 2012, she became licensed as an EMT (which comes in very useful with active boys). Katie’s passion has always been architecture so in 2016, she returned to residential design at Building Design Services and has had the honor of working with Deborah Todd ever since. Currently an associate member of the American Institute of Architects, she is on the long track to earning her architectural license. When not designing or bandaging up children, she tries to find time for painting, origami and renovating the family’s 100 year old log cabin.
Yue Xu
Yue Xu, a native of Beijing, cultivated her passion for digital animation at the Vancouver Film School, where she graduated in 2004. Since joining BDS in 2005, she has seamlessly integrated her multifaceted talents, excelling in CAD drawings and demonstrating a keen eye for architectural design.
